Thank you, MrKTV.  I remembered the caveman (not his name though) but had totally forgotten Squeak.

Thank you, packratjohn, I don't believe I didn't think to Google that myself.  It's nice to know someone else remembers that.  I was 6 at the time (1957) too.  There was another cartoon, don't remember too much about it except you got a green piece of plastic that you placed over the TV screen and drew on it, maybe finding the way through a maze pictured.  One of my spankings resulted from me not bothering to place the plastic on the TV before I drew on the screen.  Lesson learned.

Responding to Jacqui: No you aren't losing your mind. I recall the show, but not very well, (I was only 6) so i had to cheat a bit and Google it:

Colonel Bleep is a 1957 American animated TV series, which was the first color cartoon series made for television.[5] It was created and written by Robert D. Buchanan, and was animated by Soundac, Inc. of Miami.[6] The show was originally syndicated in 1957 as a segment on Uncle Bill's TV Club.[7] 100[2][3][4] episodes, of varying length of between three and six minutes each, were produced. Of these episodes, 44 episodes are known to exist in some form, with eight only existing in monochrome.

Am I hallucinating or was there a cartoon called "Colonel Bleep" who rode a space unicycle and had a caveman friend?

I didn't like "Speed Racer" as I didn't get the  Japanese Anime art .

Early in the morning was "Couragous Cat and Minute Mouse".  Anyone remember that cartoon ?  On  "The Bananna Splits" I enjoyed the "Fantastic 4" cartoon.....          I believe that was on Saturday mornings.

One Bananna, Two Bananna, Three Bananna's, Four......Four Bananna's playing in the bright warm sun"  La La La, La-la la-la......remember ?

Ran from '65 to '69

"The series was a historical milestone as the first weekly television series to feature animated versions of real, living people."

George of the Jungle? Do you realize that there were only 17 episodes?
Posted by Scott T at 1:39 pm (PDT) on Fri July 8, 2011
I know I'm a touch too young (54), but where are "Tom Slick" and his Thunderbolt Greaseslapper, and George of the Jungle, ect. Some of my alltime favorites are all of the "Loonie Toons" characters, Bugs Bunny is my hero, he was only bested by the Turtle, "Jonny Quest", best theme song ever, and Rocky and Bullwinkle. All of these theme songs are on You Tube and a real gas to revisit. . .my wife is giving me the stinkeye.

Speaking of, where is Top Cat? I was such a fan that my friends called me TC. Remember his sidekick Benny? And Officer Dibble? Somewhere I have a cel from that series.

I used to watch Davey and Goliath on Sunday mornings as well as Saturday. This show was not a cartoon at all. It was clay animation. Just like Gumby was. You would move the clay figure to where you needed it,then you would snap a picture of it,and keep doing that.

Yes, Lew Anderson played Clarabell the clown, but only after Bob Keeshan (later to be Captain Kangaroo) and Robert "Nick" Nicholson had done so.
Posted by chalkie at 4:21 pm (PDT) on Wed March 31, 2010

I don't recall a cartoon version of Rin Tin Tin; he's over in the TV/Radio gallery.

I loved Saturday mornings and getting up early to watch, starting out with Davey and Goliath! I don't see Rin Tin Tin on this list though.

Sure, but Howdy was a puppet, not a cartoon. Look in the TV/Radio gallery.

Right on!

Speaking of smart alecks reminds me of a great definition I heard a while back...

Smart-ass: Someone who can sit on an ice cream cone and tell you what flavor it is.

Who could forget the Flintstones (from the opening Theme, to the closing) they were a take off on the Great Honeymooners? Most of the cartoons had well defined characters. You knew who the good guys were, who the bad guys were, who was funny, who was a smart alex, who was just plain smart etc. Each cartoon had a story line. Almost all of the cartoons had a Great Theme Song too, just like the T.V. shows of the day.Todays cartoons lack these things. Today a cartoon is on T.V. to sell products, not for enjoyment. What a shame. These past few generarations are missing so much. Whatever happened to Saturday morning cartoons. Starting at 6:30 or so with Davey and Goliath, then maybe Gumby, then into all the other cartoons. We really were lucky.
Posted by happyandfree at 10:53 am (PDT) on Wed August 12, 2009
I watched the majority of these. Cartoons today just don't do it. Kids now have no idea what a real cartoon was. These were all funny not violent or stupied like now!
